MIBCO Legislation Defined – Sector 1, Chapter 2
Background:
This course provides a firm foundation for delegates with little to no understanding of the various MIBCO Collective Agreements and specifically for those in Sector 1, Chapter 2 (vehicle body building establishments). It is presented as an interactive learning experience with practical demonstrations and two-way conversations between the facilitator and attendees. This further delivers better interaction, communication and value-added learning experiences among delegates.
Course Outline:
The course is divided into two days from 08:00 – 16:00 and consists of the following:
Day 1:
- Brief history of collective bargaining and the Council (MIBCO);
- The establishment of the Council and its powers and functions as per LRA;
- Agreement Interpretation principals;
- The MIBCO Administrative Collective Agreement and the employer’s role and responsibilities thereto;
- The MIBCO Main Collective Agreement, Division A where meaningful discussions take place, specifically towards employee grading in Sector 1, Chapter 2;
- Trade union representation and how to bridge problematic situations.
Day 2:
- The MIBCO Main Collective Agreement, Division A – continued;
- All applicable legislation in Sector 1, Chapter 2 about particulars of employment, regulation of working hours, types of leave and leave pay, holiday bonus pay, termination of employment, enforcement, public holidays, basic wages and guaranteed / actual wages, exemption procedures and other related legislation in Sector 1, Chapter 2;
- MIBCO Main Collective Agreement, Division B & C & D;
- The MIBCO provident funds and specific emphasis towards the establishment and objectives of the funds, fund membership, fund contributions, exemptions, fund benefits, the two – pot retirement system and related legislation;
- The Sick Accident and Maternity Pay Fund (SAMF);
- Brief overview of the Motohealth medical aid fund.

He joined the former National Industrial Council for the Motor Industry, now MIBCO in 1994 as designated agent and advanced to training and coaching during 2005. From 2013 to 2021 he acquired the full-time training and development portfolio as MIBCO National Training Officer.
